Contrary
to what you might think, the winery is not a little house that we gutted. After
a disastrous experience with a Cincinnati architect when we tried to build the
winery at the vineyard, our first crush took place in Akron. (Thank you to Andy
Troutman of the Winery at Wolf Creek). We built the winery from scratch in 2002;
designed from the ground up to be a winery, highly insulated, sloping concrete
floors, tank shelf, floor drain. The winery has now celebrated its five year
anniversary. The winery is located just east of downtown Ripley at 904 Hamburg
Street, 3 blocks behind the McDonalds. The winery is a small production facility
where we make the wine.
The winery is now closed for the season. We will reopen Memorial Day Weekend
Saturday and Monday for the release of a limited amount of white wine.
What's
this! If you want to own a winery, you better be prepared for emergencies. This
barrel leaked AFTER it was filled with Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2004 harvest.
Ron jammed a pencil in to stop it. We didn't have the luxury of shipping the
barrel back to the vendor in Missouri! Ron has now repaired the leak with a
little chunk of hardwood.
The state
of Ohio requires us to charge a tasting fee for wine.
Kinkead Ridge makes
premium wines in limited quantities. The winery is primarily a production
facility, however we do taste and sell wine on site.

along the river in downtown Ripley. Cohearts Riverhouse Restaurant on the river
has no corkage fee.

--Dorothy
Gaiter and John Brecher, Wall Street Journal: "One
of the many wonderful things about a trip to wineries is that it's a reminder
that wine is a product of personal passion. On store shelves these days, too
many wines taste alike. A visit to Wine Country, tasting small-production, often
unusual wines, is always a welcome eye-opener."
"The
most memorable wines we tried give an idea of the wonders that await you in
tasting rooms."
