Kinkead Ridge   The Winery

Established 2002

"Everybody I've ever met who got into the wine business has always approached it either because they loved viticulture or they loved enology. They had a passion for one or the other. I've never met anyone who's gone into the wine industry and started a winery because they wanted to sell wine."
Allen Shoup, ex-President and CEO of Chateau St. Michelle.

The 2007 Riesling and 2007 white Revelation (predominantly Roussanne) will be released at the winery on May 24 and May 26. Because of the Easter 2007 frost, very little inventory is available, fewer than 100 cases. This wine may never reach the wholesale market. This may be your only chance to sample and purchase it.

Due to the small quantity of white wine, and the limited quantity of 2005 red wine that remains (only Cabernet Sauvignon; the Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah are sold out)
KINKEAD RIDGE WINERY WILL BE CLOSED THIS SUMMER

The winery will reopen on August 30 and September 1 for the release of the 2006 red Revelation, 2006 River Village Syrah and 2006 River Village Cabernet Franc. The winery will also be open on September 6, then closes for harvest until the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

w-picnicarea.jpg (349169 bytes)Contrary to what you might think, the winery is not a little house that we gutted. After a disastrous experience with a Cincinnati architect when we tried to build the winery at the vineyard, our first crush took place in Akron. (Thank you to Andy Troutman of the Winery at Wolf Creek). We built the winery from scratch in 2002; designed from the ground up to be a winery, highly insulated, sloping concrete floors, tank shelf, floor drain. The winery has now celebrated its five year anniversary. The winery is located just east of downtown Ripley at 904 Hamburg Street, 3 blocks behind the McDonalds. The winery is a small production facility where we make the wine.

The winery is now closed for the season. We will reopen Memorial Day Weekend Saturday and Monday for the release of a limited amount of white wine.

w-pencil.jpg (158457 bytes)What's this! If you want to own a winery, you better be prepared for emergencies. This barrel leaked AFTER it was filled with Cabernet Sauvignon from the 2004 harvest. Ron jammed a pencil in to stop it. We didn't have the luxury of shipping the barrel back to the vendor in Missouri! Ron has now repaired the leak with a little chunk of hardwood.

The state of Ohio requires us to charge a tasting fee for wine.

Kinkead Ridge makes premium wines in limited quantities. The winery is primarily a production facility, however we do taste and sell wine on site.

--Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher, Wall Street Journal:

"One of the many wonderful things about a trip to wineries is that it's a reminder that wine is a product of personal passion. On store shelves these days, too many wines taste alike. A visit to Wine Country, tasting small-production, often unusual wines, is always a welcome eye-opener."

"The most memorable wines we tried give an idea of the wonders that await you in tasting rooms."
